Appeal or Re-apply after ALJ denial?

Up and until very recently, if a claimant lost his/her Social Security disability claim at a hearing, he/she could file an appeal with the Appeals Council, Re-apply, or do both.  Doing both was often a good practice.  Doing both is no longer an option.  If an ALJ denies the claimant’s SSDI/SSI claim at the hearing, the claimant must either appeal to the AC or re-apply, but he/she can’t do both.  Careful thought, strategy, and consideration must be employed in deciding which route to take.
